How to Play Mines: Odds, Multipliers and When to Cash Out
How Mines works on Solacrash: what each mine count does to your odds, exact multipliers for common setups, and why no cash-out point beats the 1% house edge.
Mines is a 5×5 board with some mines hidden under the tiles. You pick how many mines there are, place a bet, then open tiles one at a time. Every gem raises your multiplier. Hit a mine and the round is over. You can cash out after any gem.
How the multiplier is worked out
Each multiplier is the true odds of getting that far, minus a 1% house edge. With 3 mines, the first tile is safe 22 times out of 25, so the fair payout is 25/22 = 1.136×. Take off 1% and you get 1.12×. Every later tile works the same way with the tiles that are left.
| Mines | Gems found | Multiplier | Chance of getting there |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 | 1.23× | 80% |
| 1 | 10 | 1.64× | 60% |
| 3 | 1 | 1.12× | 88% |
| 3 | 5 | 1.99× | 49.6% |
| 3 | 10 | 5.00× | 19.8% |
| 5 | 5 | 3.39× | 29.2% |
| 10 | 3 | 5.00× | 19.8% |
| 24 | 1 | 24.75× | 4% |
Look at the pattern: multiply the multiplier by the chance and you always land just under 1. That's the 99% return. It holds for every mine count and every stopping point.
Few mines or many?
More mines doesn't make the game better or worse on average. It changes the shape of your results. One mine gives you lots of small, likely wins. Ten or more mines turns each tile into a big swing. With 24 mines there's a single gem on the board: one click, a 4% chance, 24.75× if you find it.
Notice that 3 mines with 10 gems and 10 mines with 3 gems both pay 5.00× at the same 19.8% chance. Different routes, same odds. Pick the one that feels better to play.
When to cash out
There's no magic stopping point. Each tile is a fresh decision with the same 99% expected return, so cashing out early or late doesn't change the long-run maths. What it changes is how often you win and how much. A simple habit that works well: decide your target before the round starts, and stick to it.
- Want frequent wins: 1 to 3 mines, cash out after 3 to 5 gems.
- Want bigger hits: 5 to 10 mines, cash out after 2 or 3 gems.
- Want a lottery ticket: 24 mines, one click.
Is the board fixed before I click?
Yes. The mine positions are decided the moment you press Bet, from your seed pair and a counter. The server can't move them after you start. Rotate your seed on the fairness page to reveal the old server seed and check every board you played.
